Coaching Up & Comers
The ability to bring in new business is a critical leadership skill that supercharges interaction with others, especially in today’s world where are our future leaders are often tethered to technology. Consequently, many of our “Up & Comers” have had limited experience developing their interpersonal skills and confidence as it relates to business development. They are astute at communicating with their peers yet often have wide knowledge gaps as it relates to communicating with different generations.
Coaching Senior Leaders
With respect to our “Senior Leader” coaching clients, we find that they often feel challenged balancing their management responsibilities with nurturing existing clients, developing their teams plus finding time to develop new business opportunities. We help our clients to gain confidence, understand their strengths, hone new skills and learn “time-less” proven approaches to business development. Our style is straight forward and tailored to the individual.
Our Coaching Approach: (Typically based on a 3 to 6 month package)
- Assess the individual’s current situation including a determination of strengths and weaknesses
- Understand his/her long-term goals (quantitative and qualitative)
- Co-develop a strategy to include key coaching issues to achieve the goals
- Conduct 1:1 coaching sessions (typically one hour weekly)
- Shadow meetings (to be determined based on the individual’s needs)
- “Work a Room” together (the best way to coach is to see the skills in action)
- Increased confidence of Up & Comers
- Master the “Take Away” sale
- “Break the Wire” less technology, more in-person time
- Develop effective use of “authentic stories”
- Better client discussions
- Cold calling techniques that deliver positive responses
- Effective listening skills
- Ask good questions
- Understand the client’s body language
Results…new client relationships, stronger existing ones plus new revenue opportunities

We are often asked…
How do you shift a new prospect to consider hiring you?
The first step is to help our coaching client understand the mind set of the potential “new prospect or buyer”. Essentially, if a “new prospect” is not doing business with you today, he or she is most likely doing business with someone who “looks like you” on paper — i.e. an expert providing the same service, in the same sector and so forth. The difference is that the prospect has a relationship with your “competitor”.
The next step is to help our client understand the “Take Away Sales” business development approach. This approach requires one to forget their personal agenda which is often feels counter intuitive to one’s thoughts about developing business. It is based on understanding the prospect’s interests, needs and current satisfaction level of his or her current service provider with an important twist — methodically executing just the right degree of “scepticism” at the right moment. The “Take Away Sales” approach is a relevant skill that can be taught and will deliver results with the right investment of time and openness to leave one’s comfort zone.
